Recap of the last 3 days shooting Eagles at Lock and Dam 14 (1/1, 1/2, 1/3)

Wednesday I was told to get out of the house so Sharon could take down all the Christmas decorations.  By the time I got to L&D 14, it was a driving snow storm.  There were some eagles working, but the snow really messed with the focus and sharpness of the photos.

Thursday was the best day with a west wind which meant head on fishing!

Friday, the day started out at -9 degrees with 20 – 25MPH winds. Wind chill was -30 at least. It made the water really rough and the eagles struggled to lock onto fish. Since I already got lucky this year with several full frame fishing sequences, I am trying to focus in getting an in air fight series. Saw a few fights, but WAY out.  Every time there was 2 or 3 birds close to each other I started tracking, just practicing my framing and back button focusing.  Every once in a while my shutter finger would slip and click off a couple.

Here are some fruits of my labor from 1/1, 1/2, and 1/3.

As always C&C is welcomed, and I’ll be headed back on Saturday the 11th for Larry’s Annual cookout.

1 of 52: 2014

For the past 2 years, 104 straight weeks I have done a photo a week for my 52 week project.  The last one ended around the end of September 2013, so I decided to wait until the new year and have the next one follow the calendar year.

Not going to post them to Facebook as in the past only here.

Eagles and the Canon 1DX

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and got the best Canon body made.  I received my new 1DX the Wednesday before Christmas.  I got it early for Eagles.  Then the weather turned cold which made the eagles 3 to 4 weeks ahead of schedule.  They are already South of the Quad Cities.  I wanted more time to get used to the body before going into battle, but I went into battle with a one night crash course!

Here are a few series of Fishing Eagles.

Miller Chill Cyclocross 2013

Had fun in the snow Sunday 12/15/13 at Miller Park photographing Matt riding cyclocross in the snow.  I warmed up my gear on the juniors and women’s races.  And then Matt race of the Open bracket.

Feel free to use the photos for your own use but please give me photo credit at least.

Thanks and enjoy!

Peanut Butter Balls / Buckeyes

We got to watch Audry today and decided to make some more Christmas treats.

Sharon found a chocolate covered bananas recipe on Pinterest and wanted to do the chocolate covered Oreos.  So I decided I would make Mom’s Peanut Butter Balls / buckeyes too. Taste better than Reeses Peanut butter cups 🙂  Really makes me miss my mom making her recipes.

Mom's Handwritten Recipe

Peanut Butter Balls:
Amount,Ingredients,

1 stick, Margarine

16 ounce box, Powered Sugar

2 Cup, Peanut Butter

2 Cup, Rice Krispies
Using an electric mixer, combine the margarine, powered sugar, peanut butter.

Then add in 1/3 of the Rice Krispies, and continue to mix in.

Add another 1/3, then the final third.  I find that adding in the Rice Krispies a little at a time helps get a better blend and a more consistent product.

form and roll out 1 inch balls.  In my opinion the smaller the better.  I like bite sized.  Place on a cookie sheet and chill in freezer for 30 minutes.

Mom’s recipe uses a chocolate glaze, but I find it easier and just as good to use bakers bark.

I melt the bark in a make shift double boiler.

Now using a tooth pick, dip the chilled peanut butter balls in the melted chocolate and place back on cookie sheet and waxed paper.  Some people like to leave the buckeye not covered in chocolate, but I like chocolate so I usually covered them up.  However on this batch I ran out of chocolate and had to finish the batch with white chocolate bark.

Finished product, or at least you get the idea.
