Fort Worth Stockyards

Made a quick last minute trip to Forth Worth Stockyards to see the daily cattle drive, and do some Christmas shopping.  It was very cool but a bit on the tourist side.

Had a little time to pass before the cattle drive.  They drive the herd of Texas Longhorns down the street everyday at 11:30 and 4:00.  So we decided to ride a Longhorn.KJ5D2843-FrameShop I should have had my boots, hat, and duster on, but it was 81 this da.  Not bad for December the 11th!KJ5D2852-FrameShop KJ5D2856-FrameShop

Next up, I am guessing will be my upcoming Eagle and Owl trip up North. But you never know I am closing in on 2 different Great Horned Owls down here.

I kind of like the way this old guy was backlit and looks like his head is glowing!

Golf season is ramping down, I have the photography itch.  I have an eagle owl trip scheduled.

Burrowing Owl

I have slowly been crossing Owls off my list over the years.  This was a lifer.  I hadn’t been shooting much wildlife since moving to the Great State of Texas.  Mostly been playing golf, but when the eagles and snowy owls started showing up back home, the itch got the better of me.

Joined a couple Texas Facebook pages and when a Burrowing Owl appeared, game on to get a chance to cross another one off the life list.

He is located 3.5 hours South by South East of Dallas.  I spent over 7 hours in the car driving and looking for him, but finally found him and got a couple keepers.  They say he will stay around until end of February.   This is his third year in that area.  I would guess him to be about 8 inches tall.

Have a wildlife Hotspot in Texas, feel free to drop me a line and we can go photograph it.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden 2

Sharon and a couple of our friends wanted to venture down to the Arboretum.  I have been getting a lot of interest on my I haven’t been posting or doing much Photography.  The weather is cooling off so the four of us headed to the Arboretum with my trusty Canon 5DMK3 paired with my favorite walking around lens 24-70mm.

We went mostly to see the Autumn pumpkin displays.  The pumpkins were looking a little old and tired but they already had the 12 days of Christmas setup.  I didn’t photograph any of the Christmas stuff, as they are doing special night walks when I can get better photos of the lit displays.

A local artist was playing guitar and selling CD’s.  Made me flash back to when Matt and I were into guitars.KJ5D2474-FrameShopAs mentioned in my first post about the Arboretum, there were even more people doing their Quinceanera photos.  I took a chance and squeezed off a couple shots of this young lady.KJ5D2485-FrameShop

Larry and Kelly ended up moving with our employer and moved into my subdivision 2 houses down.  Our Subdivision is starting to feel like “Little Bloomington” or Bloomington South.KJ5D2502-FrameShop

Not a fan of being on the other side of the camera.  As most of you know I am once again dieting and this photo makes me diet even harder.  Look at the gut on that one.  You never really know what kind of photo you are going to get when you hand your camera away, but felt this one was decent one of us.KJ5D2504-FrameShop

As the weather cools off I’m going to make an attempt to start finding the local Texas wildlife and posting more.  I have a lot going on with the pool construction, but time will tell!

Thanks for following along in my journeys and my world through my lens.

Wylie Rodeo Days 2015

Went up to Wylie Rodeo Days this past Saturday night.  The event was very well organized.  We parked at the Wylie Football stadium and they used air conditioned school buses to get the people over the rodeo event.

The rodeo started with a prayer and a tribute to the 9/11 fallen.  I found it to be very well done and touching.  I have always been very proud to be an American and Texas is full or state and country pride.  Something lacking in Illinois.

I left before the barrel races or bull riding.  Maybe next year.  If you have’t been to a rodeo before I would strongly suggest this one next year if you are in the area.
