Week 32 of 52: Hummingbird and honeysuckle

PBKJ2413-FrameShop

Took a day of vacation today to golf Panther Creek in Springfield Illinois.  A Facebook friend and fellow photographer Brian MacKenzie had invited me to his hummingbird garden several times.  So I drove separate and took my gear.  The male didn’t cooperate, but was able to catch up with several females.  Be sure to stop by Brian’s Facebook page and give him a like.  Thanks for sharing your garden Brian!

Hummingbird

While on vacation in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Mexico, I was lucky enough to find some hummingbirds that let me get close enough.  Had plenty of hot Mexican sunlight to work with.

I think this is a Anna Hummingbird, but I am no hummingbird expert.  These little guys / gals are WAY harder to capture than a fishing eagle.  Wish I would have had the 500mm and my better beamer fill flash, but am pretty happy with my progress and captures using my 70-200mm from about 6 feet.

Basically, moved a pool lounge chair up next to the flowering bush they were visiting, maybe 6 to 7 feet away.  Ordered a tall mojito and waited.  Way warmer than shooting eagles at 10 degrees.
